About the Role
Are you an experienced English Tutor looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference?
Supply Hive are working with a post 16 provision who are recruiting for a Functional Skills English Tutor, supporting young people aged 16–25, many of whom have SEND and/or SEMH needs.
The successful candidate will deliver Functional Skills English from Entry Level 3 through to Level 2, helping learners develop their literacy, communication and confidence in preparation for employment, further education and everyday life.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about supporting young people who may have previously struggled within mainstream education.
You’ll be joining a specialist post-16 education and training provider supporting young people aged 16–25 across Berkshire.
The setting offers a range of vocational programmes alongside Functional Skills Maths and English, tutorials and enrichment activities. Many learners have SEND, SEMH needs or an EHCP and may have experienced challenges within mainstream education.
The team takes a relational and trauma-informed approach, creating a calm and supportive environment where young people can build confidence, develop independence and work towards their future goals.
The Role
If you carry out a long-term Class Teacher role with Supply Hive, you will be paid to your MPS.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role as well as the Right to Work in the UK. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.

The Role
- Planning and delivering Functional Skills English lessons from Entry Level 3 to Level 2.
- Supporting learners with reading, writing, speaking and listening.
- Adapting lessons to meet individual needs and abilities.
- Delivering both 1:1 and small-group sessions.
- Preparing learners for Functional Skills examinations.
- Assessing and tracking learner progress.
- Creating engaging and practical learning resources.
- Supporting learners with SEND and SEMH needs.
- Building positive and trusting relationships with learners.
- Maintaining accurate learner records and assessments.
- Contributing to learner reviews, target setting and progression planning.
- Working closely with Learning Support Assistants and the wider team.
- Holds a recognised Level 3 teaching qualification or equivalent.
- Has GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent.
- Has experience delivering Functional Skills English from Entry Level 3 to Level 2.
- Has experience working with young people with SEND and/or SEMH.
- Is confident planning, delivering and assessing lessons.
- Can adapt their teaching style to different learners and needs.
- Has strong classroom management skills.
- Is organised and confident maintaining learner records.
- Is calm, patient and approachable.
- Has the ability to build strong relationships with young people.
