The Role:
You’ll be teaching a small class of pupils with complex needs, delivering a highly personalised curriculum focused on communication, physical development, emotional wellbeing, and life skills.
The school follows a low-arousal approach and uses frameworks such as SCERTS to support pupils with regulation, engagement, and learning. You’ll work alongside a skilled team of Teaching Assistants, Therapists and Senior Leaders to help each child achieve their individual targets.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver a broad, balanced and adapted curriculum appropriate to your pupils’ age and ability
- Plan lessons that reflect each pupil’s individual learning and physical needs, using a range of SEND-specific teaching strategies
- Track pupil progress, using observation, assessment, and data to inform next steps
- Provide regular, meaningful feedback to pupils, families and colleagues
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of all pupils, following school policies and procedures
- Lead, support, and develop your class-based support staff (TAs)
- Contribute to the wider school community through collaboration with parents, carers, and external agencies
- Participate in school CPD, training, and professional learning opportunities
- A qualified teacher (QTS or QTLS) – ECTs with relevant SEND experience are also very welcome to apply
- A teacher who is resilient, nurturing and creative in their approach
- Someone with an understanding (or willingness to learn) about PMLD approaches, including sensory learning, low arousal behaviour strategies, and communication-focused teaching
- A team player who works collaboratively with colleagues, families and professionals
- A teacher who holds themselves accountable for the progress, wellbeing, and safeguarding of their pupils
