We are seeking a dedicated and understanding SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in High Wycombe, to support children with a variety of needs, including moderate learning difficulties (MLD), autism, social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, and communication difficulties. In this role, you will play an important part in helping students thrive both academically and emotionally by working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other specialists to provide personalised support.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will help create a positive, structured learning environment tailored to the unique needs of each student.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and group support for pupils with MLD, autism, SEMH needs, and communication difficulties.
  • Help pupils develop both academically and socially, using a range of strategies to engage and motivate them.
  • Support pupils with behavioural regulation, helping them manage their emotions and develop positive relationships.
  • Work with teachers to adapt learning materials and activities to meet the specific needs of each pupil.
  • Assist with speech and language support, using visual aids, Makaton, or other communication tools (training provided).
  • Help manage classroom behaviour in a positive and supportive way.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment, contributing to the well-being and confidence of all pupils.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Experience supporting children with MLD, autism, or SEMH challenges.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to working with children with special needs.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and an understanding of autism and SEMH.
  • The ability to use Makaton, PECS, or similar communication methods (beneficial but not essential).
  • A team player who can work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and development, with training opportunities available.
At Supply Hive, we believe in fair pay and transparent recruitment practices, offering £90-£99 per day on a PAYE basis (no umbrella companies involved). This is a great opportunity to work in a supportive environment that values inclusive education, where you can make a real difference in the lives of children with SEN. We provide training and development opportunities to help you grow in your role and progress in your career. If you’re excited about the prospect of supporting children with special needs and want to be part of a dedicated team, we’d love to hear from you!
