Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to students, offering both 1:1 assistance and small group interventions to meet the specific needs of each child. Adapt your approach to suit individual learning styles and ensure access to appropriate support.
- Assist with personal care as needed, helping students with daily tasks such as feeding, toileting, or mobility. Utilise specialist equipment, like hoists or communication aids, to ensure students can participate fully and safely in school life.
- Implement and support learning strategies designed by teachers, SENCOs, and therapists. Use visual aids, communication tools (e.g., Makaton, PECS), and sensory strategies to enhance student engagement with the curriculum, setting achievable learning goals and tracking progress.
- Help manage behaviour positively, employing de-escalation techniques and tailored behaviour plans to support students in developing emotional regulation. Foster an environment where students feel safe, supported, and encouraged to grow both academically and socially.
- Create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student is empowered to thrive. Build students’ confidence, encourage independence, and celebrate their achievements—no matter how small—on a daily basis.
- Experience working with children with SEN is preferred but not essential, as full training will be provided. A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs is crucial.
- A calm, patient, and flexible approach is essential, as every child is different and their needs can change from day to day. You should be able to adapt quickly to various situations while maintaining a focus on creating positive experiences for each student.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider team is crucial. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff, sharing insights and strategies to ensure each student receives the best care and education possible.
- A willingness to engage in ongoing training and development is key, as supporting children with SEN often requires specific skills and knowledge. You should be eager to develop your expertise in areas like communication strategies, behaviour management, and specialist SEN interventions.
