Functional Skills Tutor

Supply Hive are working alongside a specialist education setting in High Wycombe who are looking for an experienced Functional Skills Tutor to join their team.
This is an opportunity to support young people aged 15–25 who may have SEND and/or SEMH needs and may have struggled with Maths and English in traditional education settings.
You will deliver Functional Skills English and Maths up to Level 2 or GCSE level, helping learners build confidence, develop practical skills and make progress through a calm, supportive and engaging approach.

The role will involve:

• Planning and delivering Functional Skills English and Maths sessions up to Level 2 or GCSE level.
• Working with young people on a 1:1 and small-group basis.
• Creating clear, practical and engaging learning activities.
• Linking English and Maths to real-life and vocational learning.
• Building positive and trusting relationships with learners.
• Adapting sessions to different abilities, learning styles and confidence levels.
• Supporting learners to develop routine, focus and confidence.
• Tracking learner progress, engagement and next steps.
• Maintaining accurate records and contributing to learner plans.
• Developing schemes of work, lesson plans and learning resources.
• Responding calmly and positively to barriers to learning and changes in engagement.
• Supporting learners across flexible pathways where required, including centre-based and community learning.

We're looking for someone who has:

• Qualifications in Maths and English.
• Experience delivering Functional Skills up to Level 2 and/or GCSE English and Maths.
• Experience working with young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Confidence delivering one-to-one and small-group sessions.
• The ability to create practical and engaging learning opportunities.
• A calm, consistent and relationship-based approach.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good organisation and time management skills.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office and developing educational resources.
• An understanding that behaviour is often a form of communication.
• The ability to work independently, including lone working where required.
• A full UK driving licence and access to a business-insured vehicle.
