About the Role
A newly opened alternative education centre in Milton Keynes is looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join their team. The centre supports young people aged roughly 15–25 who haven’t thrived in traditional settings and may present with SEMH needs, additional learning needs, or barriers to engagement.
Their approach is hands-on, relationship-focused, and built around helping learners rebuild confidence and move towards independence, training, or employment.
This is a great fit for someone who enjoys making a real difference, can connect well with young people, and is comfortable working in a non-mainstream environment.
Responsibilities:
✨ Provide 1:1 and small-group support to learners with SEMH/SEND needs
✨ Help deliver both practical vocational sessions (e.g., construction, art, computing) and classroom-based learning
✨ Support learners with Functional Skills (Maths & English)
✨ Work closely with tutors to adapt learning to meet individual needs and EHCP outcomes
✨ Use relational, trauma-informed approaches to build trust and consistency
✨ Assist with behaviour support, de-escalation, and positive routines
✨ Keep records of progress, attendance, and interventions
✨ Contribute to a nurturing, structured and safe learning environment each day
✨ Take part in ongoing CPD and team development
Requirements:
✔ Experience working with young people – ideally those with SEMH or additional needs
✔ Warm, patient, calm and able to build positive relationships
✔ Comfortable in a practical, alternative learning environment
✔ Reliable, resilient and confident working both independently and as part of a team
✔ Good communication and organisational skills
✔ Willingness to learn trauma-informed and relational strategies
✔ Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
➡ (Bonus): Any relevant training such as TA qualifications, youth work, mentoring or vocational skills
At Supply Hive, safeguarding is a top priority. All candidates undergo enhanced DBS checks and safeguarding measures to ensure the well-being of students. We offer full assistance to make sure everything is in place before you start.
