About the Role

Are you passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs as they prepare for their next steps beyond school?

Supply Hive is working with a supportive post-16 setting in Aylesbury that is looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to support learners with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs across a range of vocational subjects.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and is passionate about helping them develop the confidence, skills and independence they need for their future.

You will work closely with learners in practical and vocational environments, helping them to access their studies, manage barriers to learning and engage positively with their education.

The role will involve:
  • Supporting post-16 learners with SEMH needs
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support within vocational subjects
  • Helping learners access practical and classroom-based activities
  • Supporting emotional regulation, confidence and engagement
  • Encouraging learners to develop independence and life skills
  • Building positive and trusting relationships
  • Supporting learners to overcome barriers to learning
  • Working closely with tutors and the wider support team
The ideal candidate will be calm, patient and resilient, with the ability to build strong relationships with young people who may have experienced challenges within education.

Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, trauma, anxiety or young people who have struggled to engage in mainstream education would be highly beneficial.

You may also have experience in a vocational, practical or industry-based environment, although this is not essential. A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them to succeed is key.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Have experience working with young people, particularly those with SEMH needs
  • Be calm, consistent and emotionally resilient
  • Be confident supporting learners in practical and vocational environments
  • Have excellent relationship-building skills
  • Be patient, encouraging and able to maintain clear boundaries
  • Be passionate about helping young people progress towards their future goals
This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people as they develop the skills, confidence and independence needed for their next steps.
