About the Role
We’re working with a welcoming SEN school in Slough who are looking for a Teaching Assistant to support secondary-aged students with Autism (ASD) as their primary diagnosis, many of whom also present with additional needs. This is a fantastic role for someone who can combine patience, empathy, and adaptability to support young people both academically and pastorally.
The role:
As an SEN TA, you’ll be working with pupils aged 11–16 who have a primary diagnosis of Autism. Some may also have additional needs such as speech and language difficulties, sensory needs, ADHD, or social, emotional and mental health challenges. Your role will be to provide consistent support across lessons, help pupils navigate school life, and encourage their independence and confidence.

As an SEN TA, you’ll be working with pupils aged 11–16 who have a primary diagnosis of Autism. Some may also have additional needs such as speech and language difficulties, sensory needs, ADHD, or social, emotional and mental health challenges. Your role will be to provide consistent support across lessons, help pupils navigate school life, and encourage their independence and confidence.
Day-to-day, you’ll:
- Provide 1:1 or small group support in lessons, adapting tasks to suit individual learning needs
- Support with communication, social interaction and building positive relationships
- Help pupils regulate emotions, manage behaviour, and transition between lessons or activities
- Encourage engagement and motivation, celebrating every step of progress
- Work collaboratively with teachers, TAs and therapists to ensure a joined-up approach
- Experience working with children/young people with Autism or additional needs is an advantage
- Calm, patient and adaptable, with strong relationship-building skills
- Able to support pupils who may present with challenging behaviour or sensory needs
- A positive, resilient role model who is enthusiastic about helping students achieve their best
- Willingness to learn new strategies and approaches with training and guidance provided

- Access training in Autism strategies and wider SEN approaches
