About the Role

Supply Hive are working alongside a specialist education setting in Aylesbury who are looking for a dedicated SEMH Practitioner to join their team.

This is a full-time pastoral role supporting young people aged 15–25 with social, emotional and mental health needs. You will work closely with learners, tutors and the wider pastoral team to help young people feel safe, understood and able to re-engage with education.

The role will involve delivering one-to-one and small-group interventions, supporting emotional regulation and confidence, and helping learners develop positive behaviours for learning.

The role will involve:
  • Delivering 1:1 and small-group SEMH interventions.
  • Supporting learners with strategies linked to their EHCP outcomes.
  • Building consistent and supportive relationships with young people.
  • Using trauma-informed and relationship-based approaches.
  • Supporting emotional regulation, confidence and positive behaviours for learning.
  • Working alongside tutors to ensure pastoral needs are supported in the classroom.
  • Using de-escalation strategies when learners become overwhelmed or dysregulated.
  • Maintaining accurate records of interventions, attendance and progress.
  • Supporting learners at key points throughout the day, including arrival, transitions and departure.
  • Working closely with the SEMH Lead and wider team.
  • Contributing to staff understanding of SEMH through collaboration and informal coaching.
We're looking for someone who has:
  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH or pastoral needs.
  • Experience in education, youth work, alternative provision or a similar setting.
  • A good understanding of trauma-informed practice and emotional regulation.
  • The ability to build trust with young people who may find engagement or relationships difficult.
  • A calm, compassionate and consistent approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Good organisation and record-keeping skills.
  • An understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a business-insured vehicle, as occasional travel to other Buckinghamshire centres may be required.
The ideal person will:
  • Be calm and compassionate, particularly when young people are feeling overwhelmed.
  • Build trust and consistency.
  • See the young person behind the behaviour.
  • Be proactive and collaborative.
  • Be committed to their own professional development.
If you have experience supporting young people with SEMH needs and are passionate about helping them build confidence, emotional regulation and positive relationships with education, we would love to hear from you.

At Supply Hive, safeguarding is a top priority. All candidates undergo enhanced DBS checks and safeguarding measures to ensure the well-being of students. We offer full assistance to make sure everything is in place before you start.
