Catering Tutor

Supply Hive are working alongside a specialist education setting in Aylesbury who are looking for an Introduction to Catering Tutor to join their team.
This is an exciting opportunity to launch a brand-new catering pathway for young people aged 15–25, using an onsite café as a practical learning environment.
The role would suit someone with experience in catering, hospitality or working in a kitchen, as well as those with a background in youth work, mentoring or supporting young people who have a genuine passion for food and practical learning.
You’ll help learners develop foundational catering and hospitality skills, build confidence and experience what it’s like to work in a real café environment. Many of the young people have SEND and/or SEMH needs, so the ability to create a calm, supportive and encouraging learning environment is essential.
The role will involve:

• Planning and delivering practical Entry 3/Level 1 catering sessions
• Teaching food preparation, cooking, kitchen safety and hygiene
• Developing teamwork, communication and customer service skills
• Using the onsite café to provide real-world learning experiences
• Embedding Maths and English into practical catering activities
• Supporting learners with SEND and SEMH needs
• Using trauma-informed and relationship-based approaches
• Supporting learners to develop confidence and employability skills
• Working alongside LSAs, tutors and pastoral staff
• Tracking learner progress and maintaining accurate records

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience in catering, hospitality or working in a kitchen, or experience supporting young people with a passion for food and practical learning
• Experience of teaching, training, coaching or mentoring, or a willingness to develop these skills
• A warm, patient and encouraging approach
• An understanding of SEND, safeguarding and trauma-informed practice, or a willingness to learn
• Good communication and organisational skills
• A Level 3 Award in Education & Training would be desirable, but is not essential
• A Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification would be desirable, but training can be supported
• A full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential
