SEMH Teaching Assistant

We’re working with a supportive SEMH school looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school supports children with social, emotional and mental health needs and provides a structured, nurturing environment where pupils are encouraged to re-engage with learning and build confidence.
This is a full-time role where you’ll be working closely with class teachers and the wider team to support pupils on both a 1:1 and small group basis. Every day is different, and you’ll play a key role in helping pupils regulate, access learning and make progress both academically and emotionally.
Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEMH needs in and out of the classroom
• Work 1:1 and with small groups to support learning and engagement
• Help pupils regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively
• Assist the class teacher with planning, resources and classroom support
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage progress

Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour
• Calm, consistent and resilient approach
• Ability to build positive relationships quickly
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• A genuine passion for supporting pupils who need additional emotional and behavioural support
